Brittany’s Birthday

Hey, everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a hot second, I’ve been very busy and can’t seem to make enough time for anything anymore! I hope you all had a great weekend – I absolutely did. Here’s a run down of what went on from Friday Night – Sunday. After work on Friday, my co-worker Fernanda and I went to a nail salon called Dashing Diva for manicures. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, Dashing Diva serves cosmo’s with a manicure – score! We had a really nice time.

After getting our nails did, we went to an Italian restaurant called Sambuca where we drank delicious red wine and ate antipasti. The antipasti was delicious and we had some great girl talk goin’ on! Such a nice Friday night.

Saturday was quite the busy day! My room mate Brittany and I had to get ready for her birthday party which was taking place that evening at our apartment, so there was lots of errand running and cleaning. Even through all of the getting ready and prepping, I managed to get to the gym for an hour for a personal training session. Love those sessions!

Then, it was time for a birthday party! So many of our friends came out to celebrate Summer and partake in Britt’s birthday celebration. It was amazingly fun and I didn’t get into bed until 4:00 AM. So worth it.

It was such an amazing weekend! I wish I could re-live it all over again. Instead, I’m off to watch the Real Housewives and some more bad-for-your-brain television on Bravo! Night, guys!

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop

Hey there! So it feels like it’s been quite a little while since I’ve been able to sit down and chat with you all, but to be frank, I’ve just been livin’! I’m the type of person whose go, go, go (which can be good and bad) so I have not had that much time to blog. My weekend was also non-stop and it all started on Friday night with a celebration for our friend Kristin’s 25th birthday. Welcome to the mid-twenties club, Kristin.

I was out until about 1:00 AM and then up at 6:30 AM on Saturday morning to get ready and take the train to New Jersey for my friend Ashley’s Bridal Shower. It was a very surreal and amazing experience to say the least. I have been to a couple bridal showers before, and it’s just a very crazy feeling to see how much we are all growing up and creating our lives. I was so happy for Ashley and her sister (who is also my friend) Jenn for pulling off such an elegant and beautiful party. Everything was so perfect.

Straight from the bridal shower, I hopped on another train to get to a different part of New Jersey to celebrate my friend Eva’s birthday. We went out for dinner where I had scallops (they were so good!) and out for quite a few some drinks afterwards.

Today was filled with some shopping, food shopping, gettin mah nails did, and then getting some stuff ready for the week. I’m pretty freaking exhausted, so my bed is calling me. My weekend consisted of zero exercise, so I want to get to the gym tomorrow morning bright and early!

Have a great night everyone!

Birthday Bash

Hi, guys! I know I haven’t been around for the past couple of days. I actually came down with some sort of virus on Sunday night and left work a bit early on Monday. I decided to stay home today because I still am not feeling 100% and I would rather take the day than go back and forth from the office feeling sick. I think I’ll be back to normal by tomorrow but it was a good idea to take a sick day.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t follow me on Instagram (@StephSkork) I have a few pictures from my night out on Saturday to share with you. My birthday night was in one word – amazing. So many friends, laughs, drinks, dancing, you name it. It was definitely a fun way to celebrate turning 25 and I have so many people to thank for sharing it with me!

I rung in 25 with a lot of laughter. Generally speaking if I’m not talking, I’m laughing. I can laugh at myself very easily. And watch out – if you trip, I’m going to laugh. And then I’ll help you – but I’ll probably laugh first.

Here’s to another great year filled with laughter :-)

25th Birthday Dinner

Last night was amazing. My parents took my aunt, Britt, John, and myself out to dinner to kick off my birthday weekend. We decided to go to my favorite restaurant, Gabriela’s, so that we could efficiently food coma ourselves with chips, guac, cheese, and margarita’s. It worked. I woke up this morning feeling like I had been hit by a truck – all worth it though. Somehow I will get to the gym today, too, before preparing for tonight’s festivities. My stomach is completely out of whack due to eating everything I never generally eat all in one day. Again, worth it. 25 came at a wonderful time. Here’s some pictures from last night:

Last Day of 24

I can’t believe tomorrow I am turning 25 years old! I am one of those people who really loves my birthday. I like celebrating a year gone by and a year to come. Sounds a little sentimental but I like looking at my small accomplishments each year and acknowledging them. Sometimes my accomplishments aren’t all that monumental, but sometimes it’s about patting yourself on the back for just being a freaking good person and being dedicated to what’s important in your life. I love celebrating with the people who have shaped my life in so many ways.

out for britts bday

Tomorrow, turning 25, for me is about having a happy day and switching up my ‘norms’. Sure I’ll try to make it to the gym in the morning but I won’t have greek yogurt after – maybe I’ll have a BAGEL. WOW. Yes I am making fun of myself here. Going out to dinner with my family and friends for some cheesy, guacamole, margarita-filled evening and not feeling an ounce of guilt (although my stomach might feel more than an ounce of discomfort after all that fried goodness). Enjoying my sister coming into the city for just a night to be able to celebrate and having her at my apartment after for a cozy girls night.

On Saturday I get to primp and pamper — getting my hair blown out, makeup did, and wearing a dress that I would have NEVER had the guts to sport a couple of years ago. Just to celebrate myself for a second. I get to have friends over, go out, and drink and dance. I’m so excited and happy. There’s so many things that I am looking forward to in my future. Sometimes I’m frustrated but at other times I just try to be content with where I am. I used to try to make sense of everything and now I realize I can’t make sense of much – sometimes you just have to kind of go with it and keep praying and believing in yourself.

I think I learned a lot of this from my eating disorder. There’s a couple of birthday’s that are so wishy-washy to me because I was just so not confident that I don’t remember a thing. Maybe I did that on purpose. I am so different now from when I struggled with an eating disorder, it’s unreal. The work that went into becoming a confident, fun, and outgoing young woman took a lot of work. Like — a fucking lot. So this is why I am celebrating. For my 25th birthday I am vowing to myself to continue to hold my head up high, to maintain a sense of purpose and confidence. To be a good person, to hang tight to my beautiful friends, to be grateful for my family, and to love myself fully.

birthday love

So here’s to 25 — can’t wait to see you.

John’s Birthday Weekend

This past Wednesday was one of my very best friends birthday’s. John turned the big 24 so he wanted to celebrate this weekend. On Friday night we went out for drinks before our dinner reservations at a restaurant called August. We had actually been to August exactly this time last year for John’s birthday (see here). Kind of freakin’ scary how quickly time flies. I remember very clearly sitting at a table with John and his friends exactly one year ago to celebrate his 23rd. Strange.

August has such an amazingly intimate, enchanting atmosphere with exposed brick and greenery that is kind of dangling throughout the restaurant. Very NYC, chic, and charming. John and I split the Country Pate to start which was so, so delicious. For my entree, I ordered the Scallops which came with mini potato’s and little bits of bacon.

My meal was absolutely delicious but it took a while for the kitchen to come out with our food and we already had late reservations to begin with. So basically we didn’t eat our meals until 10:30… my stomach hated me for that.

We ended our night at August by singing happy birthday and sharing a couple small desserts.

The festivities continued into Saturday evening where a bunch of us gathered at a bar in Chelsea for more celebrations. It was a fun night and a great way to kick off John’s 24th year :P

Since today is Sunday, I may try to take it easier. Food shop, gym, and maybe check out a museum in my neighborhood. Sushi might be on the menu tonight from Whole Foods. They have the best sushi!

Have a nice Sunday, everyone!

Today And Tomorrow

Hey peeps. Today and tomorrow are pretty significant days in my life. One year ago today, my best friend and grandpa passed away. I can’t believe I wrote this post a year ago. Time sincerely flies. I remember as soon as I found out that my grandfather passed (my dad called me) I almost immediately ran to Central Park and just ran and ran for as long as I could. It feels like that happened ten minutes ago.

Losing both my grandma and grandpa within four months of each other was quite honestly depressing. I was so close to both of them and sometimes I really long to pick up the phone and give them a call; their phone number I still have memorized. I probably always will.

My grandpa in I on a Christmas Eve when I was in high school (check out those bangs and the skirt — really cute! haha). He always played Santa and I always looked forward to a giant hug followed by a gift :P I miss those bear hugs.

Tomorrow is also a very special day, because onto a happy note, it’s my sister, Gillian’s 22nd birthday!! I cannot believe my sister is 22. SO WEIRD. She’s an adult. When did that happen?

So happy happy birthday, guth!! Enjoy every single moment of your special 22 <3

That's all I have for now – night guys!

Shenanigans

Last night was insane and instead of writing about it, how about some pictures? They’re better than my blabbering. Happy 24th Anthony – thanks for a crazy ass night.

Even though I was told last night by some of the guys that they don’t prefer when I write about fashion (shocking, really) I was pretty proud of the mix and match I came up with. Sometimes when you throw in a belt (my choice for the evening), a scarf, or some sort of accessory, it can change an entire outfit:

Anyway, onto the pics!

To round out my weekend, I spent my Sunday brunching with my friend Eva, hanging out with my other friend Alyssa, and walking around the city for almost two hours. By walking for two hours I tried to work off my one too many vodka club soda’s and that late night slice of pizza… well, yeah, I probably didn’t work it all off. So worth it though. Gotta let go every now and then or you’re not living.

Alyssa and I on this gorgeous Sunday.

Enjoy the rest of your night!

Update

Hi, everyone, and happy friday to you! This Friday actually hasn’t been the best for me : I had hopefully my last and finally oral surgery early this morning and am just now (almost 4:00 PM) feeling a bit normal. I wanted to do something else besides lie on the couch and take pain medication so I figured a post would lift my spirits. Apparently there were bits of bone debris left in my gums which was causing the irritation. Please, Lordy, let this be over.

Anyway, last night a few of my friends and I went out for a little celebration for Britt’s 25th. It was such a nice night filled with drinks, food, and tons of laughs. It was really just what I needed. I managed to get some cute pics! :)

Britt I hope you had a very happy birthday!

Now I’m off to ice my face a bit more and just hang low the rest of my night. Have a great evening and I’ll be checking back in over the weekend :)

Sneak Peek

Hello everyone! How was your weekend? I’m so sad that this one in particular is over because it was such a fun one filled with friends, food, drinks, and shopping. However, I am hoping that it was a nice sneak peek into the Summer ahead because I had an absolute blast. Let me take you back to Friday night when my friend Rebecca and I had dinner at a restaurant called Spring Natural Kitchen on the Upper West Side. I had been hearing amazing things about Spring Street Kitchen in SoHo, but was really happy to learn that there was one on the Upper West.

I liked the interior very much because it was nice and open with sleek designs and simple decorations:

Rebecca and I waited for about fifteen minutes before being seated at our table, so we decided to sit at the bar and order drinks. We both ordered the Asian Plum Cocktail which was so light and refreshing. One of the best cocktails I have had in a while. It consisted of Japanese Plum Liquor, cointreau, fresh lime juice, cranberry juice, and topped with champagne.

I stuck with one of these, but could have easily had two or three. As an appetizer, we decided to split the Tuna Tartare which was served with a seaweed salad and avocado puree.

Rebecca and I both ordered the same entree! We went for the Spring Natural Chopped Salad with tofu. It included romaine and iceberg lettuce with feta cheese, roasted corn, red peppers, chopped tomato’s, and herbed croutons tossed with a red wine-mustard vinaigrette. I asked for my dressing on the side and wound up using it all because it was so light.

This salad was perfectly light yet filling. All of the ingredients were super fresh and delicious. I will absolutely be back to Spring Natural Kitchen!

Once Saturday night rolled around, a bunch of my friends got together to celebrate our friend Analeesa’s 24th birthday. We started out at the Standard Beer Garden and then wound up at another lounge/club where we danced for hours. It was awesome and luckily my new favorite song ‘Call Me Maybe’ was played after I begged the DJ for a minute or two… so you know I got down :-P

Analeesa, Phil, and myself!

Britt, John, and Rebecca

To end an amazing night, Rebecca, Britt, and I all went to a popular pizza place called Artichoke Pizza for a couple slices. I decided to pass, but Rebecca and Britt each got a slice of Artichoke Pizza and they were clearly very excited about it:

This is a whole Artichoke Pie. While it isn’t what we ordered, it came fresh out of the oven and looked too good to pass up snapping a picture.

Well, while I decided not to order a whole slice, Britt and Rebecca were kind enough to throw me pretty big scraps of their slices, and I CANNOT get over how good this pizza is. I literally can’t wait to go back. The dough was crispy yet doughy and the artichoke sauce was beyond words incredible. I loved the little pieces of artichoke scattered throughout. Ugh, will someone bring me a slice right now?? ;)

Now I’m off to watch some of my favorite reality shows! Have a great rest of your night!

Question of the Night: What is your favorite kind of pizza? I’m now thinking that mine is artichoke…
